Kitsune Spirit

Designed by David Kerkhoff, Kitsune Spirit is a hand display font family. This typeface has two styles and was published by Hanoded.

Kitsune, in Japanese, means fox. The word is also used for mythological foxes that possess paranormal abilities, which increase as they grow older. Fox spirits can bewitch people and they can shapeshift into human form to fool human beings.
I was reading a book by Yangsze Choo, called The Fox Wife, which I really enjoyed. It deals with a ‘Huli Jing’ - the Chinese version of a Kitsune - so when I finished this particular font, I named it Kitsune Spirit in honour of the book I really enjoyed, and Japan - the country I really like and which I find myself in as I write this!

Kitsune Spirit is a font I made with a pen, by hand. I draws on my earliest work, when I didn’t know a thing about making fonts, but I quite enjoyed creating them! So, you may say that this font is rather rough, a little childish and a little wobbly, but since I had such a great time making it, imagine the delight it will give you when you use it for a project!
